One of Farmington’s Favorite Wooded Areas: Heritage Park
One of the favorite wooded recreational areas for Farmington’s residents is Heritage Park. This 211-acre park is crisscrossed with 4.5 miles of trails for hiking and nature study. Almost half of the trail system in Heritage Park is for hiking in the wooded areas of the Park, including the River View Trail, the River Trail, the Valley Trial, and the Scout Trial. These trails meander through a prairie area, skirting a wetlands preserve, all surrounded by a might stand of mature trees. Many native Michigan tree species are found in the Park, including Walnut, Dogwood and Maple trees.
For those who want to leave the forest, the other trials course their way through the recreational areas of the Park, including large picnic areas, a group picnic shelter, a large playground area, sand volleyball courts and an in-line hockey rink. The heritage Park Nature Center is also contained in the Park. This, 2,300 sq. ft. facility has interpretive exhibits, including a life-sized oak tree!
