One of Plymouth’s Favorite Wooded Areas: Maybury State Park

Many Plymouth residents who want to get away from it all travel to nearby Maybury State Park. This 965-acre Park features gently rolling terrain, open meadows and mature forests that contain large samples of native Michigan specimens such as Walnut and Dogwood trees, as well as abundant stands of Red Oak, Maple, Beech and Douglas Fir.

Maybury State Park was set up with trails in mind – wanting to provide the residents of Wayne County with access to beautiful trails for hiking. Maybury has one of the most developed and intricate trail systems within any State Park in Michigan; many comment that its trail map looks like a plate of spaghetti! Many of the trails within Maybury State Park meander into the woods, allowing visitors the chance to see trees and forest vegetation and wildlife up close.

Connected by the trail system is a myriad of picnic areas and picnic shelters, inviting Northville’s visitors to sit and stay awhile. Maybury also has many ponds within its borders, home to many water fowl, amphibians and fish – most of which can be seen by the careful observer. The trails also take visitors by a few of the original buildings that were part of the sanitarium – providing a history lesson for interested visitors.
