One of Detroit’s Favorite Wooded Areas: Belle Isle Park

For almost 100 years, Belle Isle Park has been the place to go for weary Detroiters who need to get away from the noise and busyness of the big city.  Rich with natural beauty and history, the 987-acre Belle Isle Park is a Detroit treasure as well as a Michigan State Park. Belle Isle Park boasts of 150 wooded acres, of a blend of hardwoods and evergreen trees, some of which have been there longer than the park has been in existence.  White oak, red oak, maple, birch, black cherry, basswood, and pines of every variety are found on Belle Isle.  These trees are protected, with some periodic thinning of forests done by the DNR to keep the forest healthy.

For those who want to leave the forest and the trees, Belle Isle Park has many other attractions, including a nature zoo, conservatory, golf practice facility, multiple picnic areas, a Great Lakes Museum, a beach, a water slide, and athletic fields (softball, baseball, football, soccer, rugby). The park also has many vistas that offer visitors magnificent views of Detroit and the Detroit River. Ships and boats of every variety frequent the Detroit River, some which can dock in the marina on Belle Isle.

The Trees in Belle Isle Park are Awesome! How Do You Take Care of Your Favorite Trees – the Ones on Your Property? Let PPM Tree Service & Arbor Care Help!

Belle Isle Park has over 150 acres of forested areas, filled with mature trees – some of which pre-date the park. The Michigan DNR takes care of the trees on the island, selectively harvesting areas of overgrowth and removing sick or diseased trees. Trees outside the forest are regularly trimmed or pruned to encourage vitality and growth.

As the DNR does not make house calls, how do you care for your favorite trees – the ones that stand on your property? And what happens when your trees need a little help? Or one of them needs to be removed?

This is where PPM Tree Service & Arbor Care comes in. With certified arborists on staff, we provide expert arbor care and tree services to our customers.
