One of Troy’s Favorite Wooded Areas: Stage Nature Center & Preserve
Stage Nature Center is a favorite destination for residents of Troy as well as other cities in surrounding area. The 100-acre nature preserve around Stage Nature Center includes 1.5 miles of wooded hiking trails that wind through the purely Michigan terrain. Native and non-native species of trees abound in the preserve. The preserve features marsh lowlands, upland forests, and grassy knolls and thickets along with a pond filled with amphibians, fish, and birds of many varieties. A tributary of the Rouge River runs through the preserve as well, bringing with it vegetation and fish native to the River.
Stage Nature Center is Troy’s only nature center and is one of the largest in Oakland County. Educational programs and resources are provided in the nature center, many which focus on the ecosystems supported by the Rouge River headwaters. Surrounding the nature center is a collection of native wildflowers, foliage, and trees, that are cared for by local volunteers and service organizations.
