Common Methods of Stump Removal
After our beloved trees die we are left with an unsightly stump that is not so easy to get rid of. There are several different methods for removing a stump including using liquid stump remover or hiring a professional to grind the stump away in a fraction of the time. At PPM Tree Service and Arbor care our team can make any stump in your yard disappear.
We love our trees for their durability and permanence in our yard. If everything goes right, trees should outlive us, but sometimes trees succumb to deadly tree diseases or tree pests. When trees die, their incredible durability we loved becomes a curse in the form of removing the stump.
A homeowner has many reasons to remove a stump from their yard. It can be unsightly, and maybe you don’t have that much room in your yard, to begin with. There are many methods to remove stumps. Depending on how badly you want the stump removed, it could take decades or minutes for a stump to be fully eliminated from your yard.
Let Nature Take Its Course
A tree dying and returning to the Earth is a natural process, but waiting for Mother Nature to remove your stump could take over a decade. Leaving a stump to rot the natural way will invite pests such as termites and carpenter ants into your yard. If your stump is closer than ten feet to your home, these pests could find their way into your house and wreak havoc on your wooden structures.
If you are in no hurry to get rid of the stump and it is not near your home, you could just let the stump rot away naturally. This could take a decade or longer, depending on the size and species of the tree. You can aid the process by cutting your stump in a waffle pattern with a chainsaw or drill holes throughout it to encourage ants, termites, and other insects to help speed things up.
Turn It Into a Project
A nice tree stump is a blank canvas for artists. There is a myriad of ideas and designs to choose from to turn your old stump into something fun and new. This could be your excuse to get into wood carving or hire someone to turn it into a work of art.
Stump Removal
Most people don’t want ugly stumps in their yard and want it removed so they can plant a new one or put something else in its place. But as we mentioned before, removing a stump is not an easy task, and there are so many different methods it could fill a book. Here are some of the most common methods of removing stumps.
Liquid Stump Remover
You can find liquid stump remover at any hardware or gardening center. These products promise to remove a stump in just one season. First, you have to drill several holes in and around the stump and fill those holes with the product. In theory, the chemical is supposed to break down the wood and make it easier for you to remove it.
Burning Stumps
Burning a stump might seem like a cool and smart idea, but the amount of sustained heat you need to burn the stump completely is not enough. Instead, what most homeowners end up doing is hardening the stump, making it take even longer to decay naturally.
Stump Grinding
Of all the methods of removing a stump, stump grinding is the fastest and the easiest. Stump grinders can be rented from gardening stores, but if you don’t know what you are doing, you should hire a professional. Stump grinders grind and pulverize the stump into wood chips, which you can use as mulch for a new tree or grass seed.
